PLA LINING CUP: A BIO SOLUTION FOR COFFEE TO GO

Bio Cups pose as a solution to the problem of plastic waste. Bio Cups, unlike traditional coffee cups, are lined with a PLA plastic coating. PLA (Polylactic Acid) plastic is made from renewable plant-based resources like sugarcane starch and bamboo.

With the rise of the takeaway culture, the concept spread to fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s. Customers appreciated disposable coffee cups because they could take their drink outside and consume it at their leisure.

Traditionally, coffee cups are lined with PE (Polyethylene), a petrochemical-based plastic coating used to prevent leakage in a disposable paper cup. PE plastics are made from oil, which is derived from a nonrenewable resource known as fossils. Furthermore, oil extraction degrades the environment. Fracking (the use of high water pressure to extract oil from the deepest pools on Earth) has been a major source of groundwater pollution, on which many communities rely for drinking water.

Coffee Store:WE NEED MORE BETTER CUP FOR ENVIRONMENT !

Despite the fact that PE is a recyclable material, the majority of coffee cups end up in landfills and are never recycled. Furthermore, very few waste management companies specialize in recycling coffee cups because they must separate the plastic lining from the paper in order to recycle.

Is there a way to solve this problem?

Bio Cups pose as a solution to the problem of plastic waste. Bio Cups, unlike traditional coffee cups, are lined with a PLA plastic coating. PLA (Polylactic Acid) plastic is made from renewable plant-based resources like sugarcane starch and bamboo. As a result, PLA plastic is frequently hailed as an environmentally friendly packaging solution for fast food restaurants, cafes, and food businesses.

The good news about recycling is that PLA lined Bio Cups are compostable!

That’s right, these cups degrade and dissolve back into the soil after being exposed to certain conditions.

However, there is still an issue.

Many waste management composting facilities lack the necessary equipment to process PLA plastics. Only a few facilities specialize in the composting of biodegradable plastics.

Furthermore, many bio cups are currently being disposed of in landfills due to a lack of understanding about PLA plastics and the question of whether they are recyclable or compostable. Worse, they end up in traditional recycling facilities where they contaminate the traditional PE plastic pile, rendering it unfit for recycling.

We cannot deny that PLA Bio cups are a positive step in environmental protection due to their compostability and the fact that they are plant-based. Our efforts to separate PLA plastics from PE plastics will pay off in the future as composting infrastructure expands and awareness grows.
